World’s First Curved OLED TV For A Panoramic Effect

Samsung Electronics Co. has launched the world’s first curved television, named the Curved OLED TV. This concave television provides a more life-like television viewing experience than flat-screen television sets. It provides users with a strong panoramic effect, which can be strongly felt while watching video featuring the natural environment and scenic landscapes.

World's first curved-screen OLED TV from Samsung

This Curved OLED TV was launched by the South Korean manufacturer at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show ‘CES’. This innovative product is actually a concept television, and has been launched mainly to check the interest of consumers in the market. It is not expected to be available for sale soon, so there is no cost price.

The world’s first OLED television by Samsung offers enhanced viewing angles, which makes people who are watching a video feel as if they are surrounded by the beautiful scenery being played out.

Samsung's curved-screen OLED TV being presented to the media

The picture quality of this concave curved-screen TV is also much better than any of the other televisions offered by Samsung. As the TV screen is curved, the distance from the viewer’s eye to the screen remains the same from almost all angles. This makes for comfortable, non eye-straining viewing.

TV screen designs have moved from convex, to flat screen, and now to concave curved screens. What do you think of this curved-screen OLED television from Samsung? Would you like watching TV on it?

The rich love Roentgen luxury furniture. The Roentgen style of furniture was developed by Abraham Roentgen (the cabinet maker to Queen Marie-Antoinette of France), and German Ébéniste who established the Roentgen furniture manufactory, which became one of the most famous furniture manufacturing units in Europe.

An exquisite Roentgen furniture piece with a clock

Abraham Roentgen was renowned for the wonderful pieces of ornate luxury furniture he created. This Roentgen luxury furniture usually had features such as marquetry work, innovative mechanical fittings, hidden drawers and interesting use of inlays. Together with his son David Roentgen, Abraham Roentgen designed thousands of unique pieces of luxury furniture in the 18th century, which was picked up by the rich aristocrats of Europe. This included Louis XVI of France, King Frederick William II of Prussia, Catherine the Great of Russia, and sundry German princes and nobles.

In October 2012, an exhibition of the Roentgen’s luxury furniture was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, called ‘The Princely Furniture of the Roentgens’ Exhibition’. Here are details about some gorgeous furniture pieces that were displayed at this exhibition:

The Roentgen writing desk with hidden drawers and compartments

Writing Desk: This writing desk was made by Abraham Roentgen from 1758-62, during the prime of his career. The exterior of this luxury table depicts village landscapes or intricate architectural interiors. Inside the luxury desk are hidden drawers and secret compartments. This includes a secret niche in the tabernacle, for storing religious items.

The Roentgen Marie Antoinette music box

Music Box: This music box was designed by David Roentgen for Queen Marie Antoinette of France. On the top of the music box is a mechanical figure of Marie Antoinette that plays Gluck melodies on a Dulcimer.

Roentgen desk for viewing maps and charts

Roentgen Shape Shifting Rolltop Desk: This is one of the most famous pieces of Roentgen luxury furniture, and would cost a fortune if it was put up for auction. It also has a few hidden drawers.

Well, this is how the European royals used to live in the 18th century. What do you think of these beautiful pieces of Roentgen luxury furniture? What would you hide in the hidden secret drawers of such desks and tables, if you had one?

Mida Tub - Bathtub Made From 24 Carat Gold Leaf

The Mida Bathtub is a tub manufactured by Devon and Devon, a bath product manufacturing brand based in Italy. The Mida Bathtub is a great example of the ancient Florentine tradition of gold leaf application, and has 24 carat gold leaf applied to its exterior, to give is a wonderfully royal look.

The Gold Leaf Mida Bathtub

The beautiful gilding work on the external surface of Devon and Devon’s Mida tub is the result of careful manual application of 24-carat gold leaf, which took many long hours to finish. Brad Pitt’s Furniture Line With Frank Pollaro

Brad Pitt is now designing tables, chairs and beds. Hollywood celebrity Brad Pitt has partnered with Frank Pollaro (a New Jersey based furniture design company), to launch a line of high-end luxury furniture. These tables, beds and chairs include a long glass topped dining table and a large Art-Deco bed.

Brad Pitt discussing furniture designs with Frank Pollaro

Brad Pitt has always showed an interest in architecture and design, and is the narrator for the PBS TV show Design e2. This series shows his ‘Make It Right Foundation’, enlisting prominent architects to build good affordable housing in post-Katrina New Orleans.

Items in Brad Pitt's Furniture Line

With the launch of this furniture line, Brad Pitt will be fulfilling his long time dream of designing furniture. In his debut as furniture designer, the Hollywood star has teamed up with Frank Pollaro, a furniture design company that specialises in the Art Décor style of furniture. Brad Pitt’s collection of home furniture includes a dozen furniture pieces, comprising chairs, tables and an Art Deco-styled bed.

Brad Pitt's Art Deco-styled bed with side tables

In fact, the Art Deco-styled bed was the first piece in the furniture line, which Brad Pitt and Frank Pollaro worked on together. The bed has a frame made from the best quality of glossy tropical-hardwood, together with refinements such as nickel trusses for firmly supporting the king-size mattress, shagreen foot pads, and trendy nickel side tables with silk-under-glass tops. This bed took about two years to craft.

Other furniture pieces in Brad Pitt’s furniture line include:
  • An elegant 17-foot-long dining table.
  • A stylish cocktail table.
  • A few side tables
  • A small number of club chairs
  • A bathtub for two that has been made in Statuario Venato Marble.
A large number of the furniture pieces in Brad Pitt’s furniture line features the idea of a ‘geometric single line’. The wood dining table is a good example of this, and its case has a jagged base which zigzags at unexpected angles. In addition, the glass-top side table shows off a wispy spiral metal base, which has been carefully finished in 24 karat gold.

All pieces of furniture in Brad Pitt’s furniture line are limited-edition pieces, and will be autographed by both Brad Pitt and Frank Pollaro, as a mark of their authenticity. Buyers can have them customised in a range of fine materials and finishes.

Brad Pitt’s furniture line will be showcased at a special event in New York, from November 13th-15th, during which information about the prices will be given. These prices are expected to be towards the highest end of the scale for custom furniture.

Quantum Play’s BlackBall Football Tables and Convertible Pool Table

If you are a football fan, you’ll love these football tables, or foosball tables (as they call them in the USA). Quantum Play has introduced a line of BlackBall football tables and a convertible pool-dining table for British football fans.

I liked the design of these bespoke tables, and thought the Manchester United one would be a great gift for my brother, because he is a big fan of Manchester United. I love watching football too, however, I am a fan of Germany’s Bayern Munich, and the company does not seem to make Bayern Munich foosball tables.

Customisable foosball table for playing hand-football

These football tables would be a great addition to your private gaming room, if you are rich enough to have one in your house. Else, you can always keep it in the basement and call your friends over to play. The Blackball football tables have a modern design with a polished aluminium top, curved playfield, and telescopic steel rods with chrome aluminium handles and silicon grips.

Some of the other features of Quantum Play’s football tables are:

  • ABS reinforced anti-shock polyester structure.
  • Centralized ball return.
  • LED basin lighting.
  • ATAO sound system.
  • Customised logos of your favourite soccer team, and colours.

Each Quantum Play foosball table comes with eleven cork balls, eleven black and white coloured balls, and a cleaning kit (including a spray cleaner, microfiber cloth and lubricant. The price range for these football tables starts at $25,515.

The Lambert Pool Table

Quantum Play also has a convertible billiards table called the Lambert Pool Table. This table is built with contrast cloth and a stainless steel metallic finish, and has the centralised ball return feature of the football tables, together with LED lighting. Besides these features, the Lambert Pool Table has a top frame that can be customised in a range of finishes, like matt, textured wood grain and high gloss laminates.

Convertible pool-cum-dining table

As the Lambert Pool Table has an ultra-slim frame, it can be used both as a pool table and as a stylish dining table. It can be easily fitted in your dining room, and can be converted into a dining table within a few minutes. Quantum Play’s standard convertible Lambert Pool Table is priced at $8,772.

Gold and Diamond Sink – Most Expensive Sink In The World

The things they invent these days. I was surprised to hear that a bathroom sink made of pure gold and diamonds is on sale. Priced at $80,000, this gold and diamond washbasin is believed to be the most expensive sink in the world. Imagine washing your hands in such a bathroom sink…who would buy such a thing?

This firm has developed a reputation for creating a wide range of expensive luxury home-interior items, which include washbasins, showers, furniture, bathtubs and other unique household products. These high-end home accessories usually find their way into the homes of some of the richest billionaires in the world.

Features Of The Gold Washbasin

Named ‘Blido’, the gold washbasin crafted by ‘Luxury Edition and Gallery’, is actually made from aluminium, with a covering of 24 carat gold, and a few diamonds in a circular pattern, studded on its exterior (If the diamonds were on the interior, there were strong chances of them getting unstuck, and being washed down the drain...now, who would want that?)

  • It weighs 23 kilograms.
  • Hand cast aluminum used in the manufacture of the gold sink.
  • It has one brilliantly cut 2.00 carat diamond, together with eight 0.25 carat brilliantly cut diamonds.

In addition to the diamond and gold bathroom sink priced at US $80,000, Luxury Edition and Gallery also allows clients to specify customised washbasins made from other materials. Clients can choose their own design, and decide if they want gem-stones like rubies, diamonds, emeralds or sapphires studded on the exterior of sinks made from either white gold, yellow gold or even platinum.

What do you think about this gold and diamond washbasin? Would you ever consider having such a sink in your bathroom (even a fake gold and diamond sink?) or is it simply too jazzy?

Features of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire Watch

The Atmos du Millenaire is an exclusive watch that will be available in a three-piece limited edition. It does not require batteries, electricity or manual winding to work. Instead, the exclusive Atmos du Millenaire Diamond Jubilee timepiece runs on a single degree rise or fall in temperature (Celcius), which is enough keep it powered for a few days at a time.

Some of other features of the Atmos du Millenaire clock are:
  • An engraving of a “Dieu et Mon Droit” seal.
  • A detailed family lineage of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Indicators for hours, minutes, months and moonphases.
  • Coverage of a lengthy time span stretching from year 2000 to 3000.

How is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire Watch Powered?

The Atmos du Millenaire timepiece is a brilliant combination of horological know-how and technical excellence. It works according to simple technological principles, which were invented decades back in 1928. The heart of the clock is a small capsule located at the back. This little capsule uses a technological mechanism to convert temperature variations into mechanical energy, thus keeping the clock running, without any restrictions.

In fact, the mechanism of the Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire watch can use sudden changes in temperature to store energy for more than 48 hours. Two features that guarantee the unhindered functioning of this exclusive Diamond Jubilee timepiece are the slow oscillation of the balance, and the use of an elinvar wire for hanging the balance.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire watch is also environmentally friendly and uses zero lubricants, thus minimising energy waste. In addition, the Diamond Jubilee timepiece uses a fraction of the energy that other watches use for power. In fact, it is so energy efficient that 60 million Atmos du Millenaire watches working together would only consume as much energy as a 15 watt light bulb!

Aquos - World’s Largest LED HDTV At 90 Inches

Japanese consumer electronics company Sharp has beaten its 2011 record of the world’s largest LED HDTV by announcing the commercial launch of its new 90 inch Aquos LED LCD HDTV. Last year, Sharp had introduced the 80-inch Aquos LC-80LE632U, as the world’s largest LED HDTV.

This announcement was made at a glittering event held in New York City, where it was also stated that the new 1080p Sharp Aquos LC-90LE745U uses less than 150 watts of power, and thus costs a customer only about $28 per year to operate. According to market analysts, the strategy of annually expanding both the size and the price of their HDTVs has helped Sharp expand its reach, considerably.
