Bejeweled Replica Of The Taj Mahal – Worth $18.3 Million

Check out this solid-gold replica of the Taj Mahal, studded with precious stones. This model of India’s Taj Mahal will be made from 420 kilograms of precious metal (including pure gold), and is worth $18.3 million or about 11.5 million British pounds.

Miniature Taj Mahal made from gold and silver

The Taj Mahal is one of the few architectural wonders built by someone in memory of his wife. It was made by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Constructed entirely of white marble, the Taj Mahal means the ‘crown of palaces’ and is situated along the banks of the Yamuna River, in the city of Agra, India.

Silver minaret of the replica Taj Mahal

This replica model of the Taj Mahal is designed by Syed Hanif, a Bhopal-based jeweller who is obsessed with the beauty of this majestic mausoleum. When fully complete, it will measure 3.5 feet in height, and feature 420 kilos of expensive metals and eight diamonds. Of the 420 kilos, 20 kilos will be of pure gold, while the remaining 400 kilos will be of pure silver.

Intricate designs on the Taj Mahal model

Presently, this costly reproduction of the gold Taj Mahal is being crafted by 35 skilled craftsmen, under the guidance of Syed Hanif, in Bhopal, India. These craftsmen will also be responsible for the intricate Arabic calligraphy on the doors and walls of the miniature Taj Mahal. In fact, Hanif has also hired an Islamic scholar, to check that the Quran passages adorning the original Taj Mahal, are accurately reproduced on his miniature model.

What do you think of this gold replica of India’s famous Taj Mahal?

Rare Antique 1887 British Coin For $250,000

A rare gold coin featuring the head of Queen Victoria, has been estimated to be worth $250,000. This rare collector’s coin dates back to 1887, which was the last year when the ‘young head’ design of Queen Victoria was engraved on the gold coins. It is a one crown coin.

This engraving of the ‘young head’ was based on a design made by coin engraver William Wyon, when Queen Victoria had just ascended to the throne. It shows her as a young monarch, without a crown.

Photo of the Rare Queen Victoria Great Britain Crown

This rare Queen Victoria coin will be auctioned at Heritage Auction’s Ancient and World Coin Signature Auction, which is scheduled to be held on the 6th and 7th January in New York, USA. If it sells for its estimated price of $250,000, this rare British coin will become one of the most expensive coins in the world.

The main reason why this Queen Victoria coin is valued so high is because it is in pristine almost-new condition. It has a strong reflective lustre, rich reddish tones, and does not have any abrasions or any bruising around the edges. This is exactly what coin collectors look for when they want to purchase coins, especially at auctions.

On this rare vintage coin is an engraving of Queen Victoria, with her hair tied in two fillets, and ending in a ponytail. There are no ornaments or jewelry of any kind in her hair. Below the portrait of the Queen is a flat six-pointed star. On the back of the coin is the Order of the Garter crest, with its crowned lion, unicorn and bowed wreath.

What do you think of this rare antique Queen Victoria coin? Do you collect rare coins like this, which would be of numismatic value to coin collectors?

With its trademark large yellow shoes and red shorts, Mickey Mouse appeared in more than 130 films, and even became the first cartoon character to have its own star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. World’s Most Expensive Bike – CosmicStar Cruiser for $1 Million

The world’s most expensive bicycle is an art bike named the Cosmic Star Cruiser, which has been priced at a whopping one million dollars. The main reason why this bike is priced so high is because it has been designed by Jack Armstrong, a renowned pop artist.

Jack Armstrong holding the colourfully painted bicycle

Jack Armstrong began painting when he was five years old, and went on to develop a unique style of art in the nineties, which he termed Cosmic Extensionalism. Being a bit eccentric, he announced he was re-purchasing all his paintings, and would only paint a total of 100 paintings during his lifetime.

In the past, Jack Armstrong had designed a Harley Davidson motorbike named the Cosmic Starship motorcycle, which was also priced at one million dollars. His new one-million-dollar art bicycle is twice the price of the previous holder of the world’s most expensive bicycle, which was a bike designed by Damien Hirst for charity.

Together with the Cosmic Star Cruiser bike, Jack Armstrong also launched his final painting named ‘Future Magic’. This painting is priced at $6 million.

What do you think of this colourful bike by Jack Armstrong? Do you fancy yourself riding one of these around the neighbourhood?

Rare Vintage Apple Computer Auctioned For $640,000

A rare vintage Apple 1 computer, which was made in 1976, has been sold for the massive price of $640,000. The Apple 1 computers are some of the first computers in the world, and were developed by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs in Silicon Valley in 1976. Only 200 of these computers were produced, and they were the first ready-made personal computers that were available for people to buy.

Motherboard, keyboard and monitor of Apple I vintage computer

Of these 200 vintage Apple 1 personal computers, only 43 are believed to have stood the test of time and survived. Only six of these 43 units are in working condition. One of these operational Apple 1 computers was auctioned for $374,500 (twice its estimated price) at a Sotheby’s sale in New York. It is believed that after the death of Steve Jobs, the value of vintage Apple computers have increased immensely.

Monitor of old vintage Apple I computer unit

This is why when another vintage Apple I computer in working order was put up for auction in Germany, it broke all records and garnered a huge $630,000. This auction was held by Team Breker in Cologne, Germany. The vintage Apple computer unit in question was one of the original personal computers created by Apple in 1976 for the masses.

It also had a re-printed version of the original Apple I manual and a schematic diagram signed by Steve Wozniak (Apple co-founder). Duc d’Orléans Bréguet Clock – World’s Costliest Clock At $6.8 Million

The world’s costliest clock is the Duc d’Orléans clock of Abraham-Louis Breguet, which was sold for $6.8 million at a Sotheby’s auction in November 2012. This rare Sympathique clock was invented in 1795, and is a master carriage clock that can rewind a detachable pocket watch, and set it to time. This antique clock is what made Abraham-Louis Breguet a renowned French horologist and watch maker.

Antique Sympathique Clock by Breguet

The Sympathique clocks made by Abraham-Louis Breguet were commissioned by various royal households in the eighteenth century, which included the Spanish kings, the Russian crown, King Napoleon of France and by King George IV of Britain. There are very few of these antique Sympathique clocks available today, and this Abraham-Louis Breguet clock was one of them.

Features of the Duc d’Orléans clock made by Abraham-Louis Bréguet

This antique Breguet clock is a quarter-striking clock made from gold and red tortoiseshell. It is about two feet in height, and is the only Sympathique antique clock that can wind, set to time and regulate its watch, through an integrated cradle mounted on its pediment. The clock has beautiful carvings and designs decorating its exterior, which enhances its value. The French antique clock is also in pristine condition, which is highly valued by art collectors and private museums.

Designs on the Breguet Sympathique Antique clock

The Duc d’Orléans clock was bought for the price of $6,800,000 by a private museum at the Sotheby’s watches and clocks sale held in November 2012. Sotheby’s did not expect this antique clock to collect such a huge amount, and thought it would sell for only about $5,000,000. This Breguet antique clock was previously auctioned in 1999, by the Time Museum in Illinois, USA, for the price of $5,777,500.

What do you think of this antique winding clock? If you had one, where would you place it in your home?

Indian Chief Joseph’s Costly Poncho Shirt

Chief Joseph was the American Indian leader of the famous Nez Perce tribe. His real name was Hinmatuyalatkekt (pronounced as Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekt), but he was known to the local citizenry as Chief Joseph. Items owned by this popular Native American chief are very popular with art collectors all around the world, and in July 2012, a poncho shirt owned by him was sold for a whopping $877,500.

This poncho shirt belonging to Chief Joseph is made of two soft skins, and has beautiful beadwork in bright colours, with bold geometric designs along the shoulders. It is also considered to be an important Indian artefact. Chief Joseph’s colourful poncho shirt was estimated at $800,000, and had been put up for auction at the Coeur d’Alene Art Sale, held annually in Reno.

Who was Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce Tribe?

Indian Chief Joseph was a peacemaker and humanitarian of the late nineteenth century. He became famous for his principled struggle against the removal of his Wallowa band, and his resistance towards moving the Nez Perce tribe to an Idaho reservation. The poncho shirt that was auctioned off in Reno is the very same poncho shirt, which Chief Joseph wore in an 1877 photograph, and while posing for a portrait in 1878.

In fact, the finished portrait painted by artist Cyrenius Hall, can still be viewed at the Smithsonian Institution, the largest museum and research complex in the world. This painting shows Indian Chief Joseph, striking a majestic pose in his traditional poncho shirt. It was painted a short time after the Native American Chief led around 750 members of his Nez Pearce tribe, over an unsuccessful 1,700 mile journey from Oregon to Montana, in the hope of reaching Canada.

He believed that this life-journey would help prevent the forceful removal of his band, and the ‘non-treaty’ movement of the Nez Perce tribe to a reservation in the state of Idaho. He took with him about 500 women and children. However, he was stopped by United States troops in 1877, when he was just 40 miles south of the Canadian border, and made to surrender. After the historic surrender of Chief Joseph, he made the famous statement, “From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever”.

The painting of Indian Chief Joseph in his famous poncho shirt was also used for a United States postage stamp. Before the auction of the shirt for $877,500 at Reno, it had garnered $482,500 at the Sotheby’s American Indian Art sale in May 2012.

The Golden Eagle: One of the World’s Largest Gold Statues

The Golden Eagle is one of the world’s largest sculptures crafted from solid gold, with glittering diamonds encrusted all over it. Priced at six million US dollars, this piece of magnificent artistry is now up for sale, to raise awareness about breast-cancer.

The Golden Eagle gold statue is owned by Ron Shore, a Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist, who is also a treasure hunt expert. Ron Shore had previously commissioned this statue as part of a personal mission to create a unique treasure, which could be later sold, and the proceeds donated to help fight breast cancer. Mr. Ron Shore has been supporting this particular cause because his sister had died of breast cancer, just two days after she gave birth to a little girl.

The Golden Eagle Gold Statue

The Golden Eagle Gold Statue is considered to be the third largest gold sculpture in the world. The eagle statue measures 26cm x 10 cm, and has been hand-crafted from different types of gold, such as 14 carat yellow gold, 18 carat white gold, 10 carat yellow gold and 14 carat white gold. It features a rhodium fish, while the head and the neck of the eagle are encrusted with 763 round diamonds.

The eyes of the Golden Eagle gold statue are bezel set in white gold, with two pear-shaped diamonds that have been brilliantly cut. The beautiful base of the statue has been crafted from 10 carat yellow gold, and includes the famous 12.72 carat ‘Atocha Star’ emerald. This glittering green emerald was recovered in 1980 from the wreck of ‘The Atocha’, a Spanish treasure galleon that had sunk centuries ago in 1622. According to sources, it took more than 4,000 hours of painstaking work to create the exquisite Golden Eagle Gold Statue.

Sotheby’s, the acclaimed auction house, has estimated the Golden Eagle sculpture to have a market value of six million US dollars. Philanthropist Ron Shore has agreed to donate $1 million off the estimated market value of the Golden Eagle statue to charity. This money will be directly given to the breast cancer charity selected by the person who finally buys the treasure. In addition, another $1 million will be awarded to the winner of Shore’s ‘The World’s Greatest Treasure Hunt: Quest for the Golden Eagle’ contest.

The remaining profits from the Golden Eagle Statue sale will go towards contest promotion costs and other expenses for raising a further $24 million for breast cancer research. Moreover, Ron Shore has also agreed to award an amount of $100,000 as finder’s fee to anyone who helps facilitate the sale of The Golden Eagle sculpture. If you wish to buy this statue and contribute towards this noble cause, please contact Mr. Ron Shore by emailing him at Ron@GreatHunt.com.

Lego Figure of Queen Elizabeth II With A Diamond Crown

In June 2012, Lego unveiled a special collector’s edition Lego figure of Queen Elizabeth II (with a diamond encrusted crown), to commemorate the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne. With the launch of this exclusive Lego block, the company has joined many of the leading luxury brands who are celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee event with the launch of stylish and luxurious products (mostly limited edition pieces).

Unveiled to the public at the famous Legoland theme park situated in Windsor, just a short distance away from the Queen’s Windsor Palace, the bejewelled Lego figure of Britain’s monarch stands 10 centimetres tall. This figure has Queen Elizabeth II wearing a pure white gown, with the traditional blue sash (the Garter Riband). On the head of the Lego figure of the Queen is a little crown, encrusted with sparkling real diamonds.

Other than the bejeweled Lego figure of Queen Elizabeth II with its diamond-encrusted crown, Lego has also created Lego figures to portray other members of the Windsor Royal Family. The most famous of these limited edition Lego pieces was the figures of Prince William and his wife Kate, which were crafted to celebrate the Royal Wedding in 2011.

Atmos du Millenaire - Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Diamond Jubilee Edition Watch

The Atmos du Millenaire, is an exquisite watch crafted by Jaeger-LeCoultre to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen. Previously, Jaeger-LeCoultre had launched the 101 jewellery watch and the Diamond Jubilee Reverso watch, both of which were also designed to commemorate this special national occasion. Even in 2002, when the Queen was celebrating her Golden Jubilee, Jaeger-LeCoultre (official timekeepers of the royal event) had introduced a special Atmos timepiece.

Features of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire Watch

The Atmos du Millenaire is an exclusive watch that will be available in a three-piece limited edition. It does not require batteries, electricity or manual winding to work. Instead, the exclusive Atmos du Millenaire Diamond Jubilee timepiece runs on a single degree rise or fall in temperature (Celcius), which is enough keep it powered for a few days at a time.

Some of other features of the Atmos du Millenaire clock are:
  • An engraving of a “Dieu et Mon Droit” seal.
  • A detailed family lineage of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Indicators for hours, minutes, months and moonphases.
  • Coverage of a lengthy time span stretching from year 2000 to 3000.

How is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire Watch Powered?

The Atmos du Millenaire timepiece is a brilliant combination of horological know-how and technical excellence. It works according to simple technological principles, which were invented decades back in 1928. The heart of the clock is a small capsule located at the back. This little capsule uses a technological mechanism to convert temperature variations into mechanical energy, thus keeping the clock running, without any restrictions.

photos of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire gold watch clock for queens diamond jubilee

In fact, the mechanism of the Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire watch can use sudden changes in temperature to store energy for more than 48 hours. Two features that guarantee the unhindered functioning of this exclusive Diamond Jubilee timepiece are the slow oscillation of the balance, and the use of an elinvar wire for hanging the balance.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos du Millenaire watch is also environmentally friendly and uses zero lubricants, thus minimising energy waste. In addition, the Diamond Jubilee timepiece uses a fraction of the energy that other watches use for power. In fact, it is so energy efficient that 60 million Atmos du Millenaire watches working together would only consume as much energy as a 15 watt light bulb!

Million Dollar Tintin Comic Book Cover

Since 1929, when the series of ‘Tintin’ comics were first introduced, the hysteria has never really faded away. Now, in June 2012, a rare hand-drawn comic book cover, only one of five original pieces of art, has been sold for a whopping US $1.6 million. This proves once again, that the business of comic collectables is no laughing matter.

Over the past few decades, collecting comic books has turned out to be serious business, with well-preserved collectibles/artwork constantly fetching hefty prices at comic book auctions.  Some of the most costly comic book auctions have taken place in the last five years. This includes the sale of the world’s best Marvel Comics multi-million dollar collection, and the Batman #1 comic book that garnered a staggering US $850,000, earlier this year.

With the sale of this rare Tintin comic book cover for US $1.6 million in a Paris auction, more millionaire investors are beginning to take the business of comic book collectibles seriously.

Tintin in America Artwork Sold For 1.6 Million Dollars

The Tintin original artwork that has been sold for US $1.6 million is a rare hand-drawn ‘Tintin in America’ comic book cover, which was created way back in 1932. It is one of five remaining originals by Herge, and one of only two in private hands. The 1932 Tintin comic book cover is the very third outing created for the character, in the year 1929.

photos of million dollar vintage tintin comic book covers

It was painstakingly drawn by Belgian comic book legend ‘Herge’ Geoges Remi, who both wrote and illustrated the Tintin comic book series, before he passed away in 1983. This rare comic book cover shows the young reporter-detective Tintin dressed like an American Cowboy, sitting atop a rock with his pet dog Snowy at his side. Behind him are three Red Indians, wielding two axes and sneaking towards him.

This rare Tintin comic book cover was purchased in a Paris auction by an unnamed buyer, from an ardent Tintin collector. It broke its previous record price of $950,710, which it had set in 2008, when it was previously bought by the comic book collector. After purchasing the rare comic book cover, a friend of the unnamed buyer said that his friend’s aim was not to beat the previous record, but to acquire the piece of interesting artwork.
