Ronald S. Lauder – Art Collection


Ronald Stevel Lauder is an American businessman who is renowned for his group of cosmetic companies, under the brand name Estée Lauder. He is also one of the richest business magnates in the world, with a net worth of over $3.3 billion. What most people don’t know about Ronald S. Lauder is that he is also a fervent art collector, and has one of the most extensive art collections in the world.

Ronald S. Lauder became a talking point in the global community of art collectors, when he purchased the famous masterpiece ‘Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I’ by Gustav Klimt for $135 million, in 2006. This was the highest price ever paid for a painting in that year, and took the media by surprise.

Ronald S. Lauder mostly collects German expressionist paintings and artwork, and has one of the foremost private collections of these paintings, which were created between the two world wars. He is also the proud owner of the world’s largest private collection of armour, made during medieval and renaissance times.

Neue Galeri Art Museum in New York City

Ronald S. Lauder has founded a small private museum called the Neue Galeri to display some of the works from his private art collection. This private museum is situated at Fifth Avenue and 86th Street, in New York City, New York. Inside the museum you will find German and Austrian paintings, decorative pieces and fine arts from the early 20th century. Also displayed in this museum is one of the world’s best art collections of Egon Schiele’s works.
