Based in Greece, Philip Niarchos is one of the richest art collectors in the world. He is the eldest son of Stavros Niarchos, the late Late Greek shipping magnate. On the death of his father, Philip Niarchos inherited his father’s extensive art collection. This comprised famous masterpiece paintings, such as:
- Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Self Portrait with a Bandaged Ear’
- Pablo Picasso’s self-portrait ‘Yo, Picasso’.

Philip Niarchos mostly collects impressionist and modern art paintings. He is a board member of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and also works to promote appreciation of art paintings, in the world.
According to various art experts, Philip Niarchos’ art collection (comprising impressionist and modern art paintings) has been estimated to be the ‘world’s most valuable art collection in private hands’.
